HISTORY

The beginnings of Pure Play Sports trace back to September 6, 2004, when a group of research students from the Asian Institute of Management brainstormed on the feasibility of Sports Management in the Philippines setting.

Sports was the common factor that excited the group. They regularly participated in badminton, basketball, and billiards competitions between inter-MBA schools. The group was fortunate to come across influential personalities from the Junior Baseball Softball Foundation of the Philippines (JBSFP) and sealed a three (3) year partnership to co-organize sports advocacy programs for the youth sector. The partnership and years of service together drew positive word of mouth and Pureplay’s services extended to corporate team building activities that remains to be among its main source of revenue. This steady source of revenue has been vital in sustaining the efforts of the JBSFP & Pureplay to grant scholarships to deserving provincial teams and coaches. In addition, Pureplay extends its help to other foundations such as the Philippine Heart Center by providing services for “Camp Braveheart”, an annual activity that supports patients undergoing heart surgery and therapy.

Pureplay’s first years have been very exciting as it expanded its services into organizing clinics for kids (Alabang Summer Clinic) and corporate executives (Tri-Phil Industrial Enterprises). Other sports advocacy programs such as kid’s soccer and kid’s ultimate disc have been a new focus of Pureplay today.

Venturing into marketing campaigns have been fruitful endeavors as well for Pureplay. Raising funds for the adult night school program of De La Salle and for the athletic & educational scholarship of Ateneo de Manila was made a reality after successfully staging the “Fil-Oil Flying V: Ultimate Showdown Ateneo vs La Salle” played at the Araneta Coliseum and aired live via Studio 23. Another project that caught the fancy of sports enthusiasts, especially from our friends in Davao, Cebu, Metro Manila and Pangasinan, was the “Astig Revicon: Guinness Dribbling Challenge”. The event was a success by allowing another Filipino to hold a Guinness World Record…this time it’s not in the field of bowling but for the record of the longest dribbling time beating out US 5th grade teacher, Joseph Odhiambo (a record that has not been broken in almost ten years).

For the past five years, it has been a very colorful and fun ride for Pureplay, helping break records, raising charity funds, and touching lives of many of our youth and adult professionals.

Pureplay promises to continue in its quest to provide choice events for all…never stopping to think of ways in making an event exciting and memorable, and at the end of it all… help in building a better tomorrow for our youth today.
